On Feb. 6, the Ministry of Education invited some proposed deputies to the 14th National People's Congress and members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) to hold a symposium. Before the meeting, Huai Jinpeng, secretary of the Party Leading Group and minister of the Ministry of Education, met with the deputies and members to listen to their opinions and suggestions. At the forum, members of the Leading Party Group of the Ministry of Education and vice ministers Sun Yao and Chen Jie introduced the key work of the Ministry of Education in 2023 and the handling of suggestions and proposals of the Ministry of Education respectively. We were invited to speak on behalf of the Committee members and officials from the Liaison Bureau of the General Office of the NPC Standing Committee and the Office of the Committee for Handling Proposals of the CPPCC National Committee. Other leading Party members of the Ministry of Education attended the meeting.
Huai first expressed his gratitude to the deputies for their concern, support and help in education development, in-depth education practice, research on education policies and valuable suggestions. He pointed out that the Party's 20th National Congress for the first time integrated education, science and technology, and human resources, giving education a new strategic position, historical mission and development pattern. The Ministry of Education will further promote the building of an education powerhouse and respond to the concerns of deputies, committee members and all sectors of society with the results of education development. While giving full play to the basic role of education in improving people's wellbeing and ensuring the bottom line, we should undertake the mission of serving high-quality development and vigorously improve the ability of education to serve economic and social development. We need to stay committed to innovation, strengthen the top-level design of reform, and use a sense of reform and innovative approaches to create new impetus and vitality to open up new areas and track tracks for development, and create new drivers and strengths for development.
At the symposium, the representatives and members of the conference put forward their opinions and suggestions on the impact of population situation on education, balanced development of education in border areas and ethnic minority areas, aesthetic education in universities and primary and secondary schools, talent training in basic disciplines, construction of universities with local and industrial characteristics, teacher development and ability improvement, writing teaching, etc.
