On May 23, UOB Bank (China) Co., Ltd. released the latest research report "UOB Enterprise Outlook Survey Report (China)". The report shows that the enthusiasm of China and ASEAN enterprises to "go global" and "bring in" remains unabated, and coping with global inflation, diversification of supply chain and sustainable transformation have become the main concerns of enterprises.

Chinese companies and companies from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations have expressed keen interest in exploiting business opportunities in each other's markets, boosted by the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement that came into effect early last year, according to a report released by UOB (China) Ltd in Singapore on Tuesday.

The survey surveyed executives or decision-makers at 588 the mainland of China companies with annual sales of 100 million yuan to more than 4 billion yuan.

The survey found that about 40% of ASEAN companies want to expand in the mainland of China. In ASEAN economies, about 46% of wholesale companies and 45% of construction companies also have such plans, showing the strongest willingness.

UOB's report shows that companies in Thailand and Singapore are most willing to invest in the the mainland of China market.

Data from China's General Administration of Customs in early May showed that ASEAN continued to hold steady as China's top trading partner in the first four months of 2023, with bilateral trade worth 2.09 trillion yuan, up 13.9 per cent year-on-year and accounting for 15.7 per cent of China's total foreign trade.

Jimmy Koh, Group Managing Director, Strategic Communications and Branding, UOB, said that despite the overall optimism, companies should address two major challenges - soaring global inflation and diversifying demand in the supply chain.

Although inflation is forecast to fall over the next six months to two years, 89% of mainland Chinese companies surveyed said they would still be affected, particularly by rising operation costs and raw material prices, said UOB.
