On August 23,2021, when General Secretary Xi Jinping visited Saihanba Mechanical Forest Farm in Hebei Province, he stressed that Saihanba spirit is an integral part of the spiritual pedigree of the Communist Party of China. The whole Party and the whole nation should carry forward this spirit, developing the green economy and ecological civilization well. Saihanba should have a deeper understanding of the concept of ecological civilization, making persistent efforts, starting a second venture and contributing to the new journey ahain.

The spirit of Saihanba is the root and soul of the forest farm. Saihanba Mechanical Forest Farm integrates the spirit of Saihanba into the whole process of high-quality development of the forest farm with always keeping in mind the instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping in order to strive to start a new journey of second entrepreneurship.

不忘初心 坚定信念

Never forget the initiative with firm faith

60年来，三代塞罕坝人听从党的号召，驰而不息、接续奋斗，培育出“大胡子、矮胖子”的优质壮苗，改进了“水土不服”的苏联造林机械，经受住严重“雨凇”和大旱考验，攻克道道技术难关，营造起世界上最大的人工林场。

Over the past 60 years, the three generations of Saihanba people have cultivated high-quality strong seedlings with "big beard and short fat" which can withstand the test of severe "glaze" and drought, by following the call of the Party and keeping on working hard, which improves the Soviet afforestation machinery with "unsuitable climate". They have overcome all technical difficulties, and built the largest artificial forest farm in the world.

立足新时代生态文明建设新要求，塞罕坝机械林场建立了以《森林经营方案》为核心的经营管理体系，通过人工林近自然经营、流域经营，大力营造异龄复层混交林，打造森林经营试点，构建起物种丰富、稳定健康的森林生态系统。

Based on the new requirements of construction of ecological civilization in the new era, Saihanba Mechanical Forest Farm has established a management system with the Forest Management Plan as the core. Through the near-natural management of artificial forests and watershed management, it has vigorously created uneven-aged multi-layer mixed forests, built forest management pilot projects, and built a forest ecosystem rich in species, stable and healthy.

目前，塞罕坝有林地面积达115.1万亩，森林覆盖率82%，林木蓄积量1036.8万立方米，单位面积林木蓄积量是全国人工林平均水平的2.76倍，成为护卫京津的绿色生态屏障。

At present, Saihanba has a forest area of 1.151 million mu, with a forest coverage rate of 82% and a forest stock volume of 10.368 million cubic meters. The forest stock volume per unit area is 2.76 times of the national average level of artificial forests, which has become a green ecological barrier to protect Beijing and Tianjin.

艰苦奋斗 苦干实干

Arduous Work

林场建场初期，塞罕坝人的工作生活环境极其恶劣，吃黑莜面、喝冰雪水、住窝棚、睡马架，凭着坚韧的毅力顶风冒雪、垦荒植树，让绿色在高原荒漠生根、蔓延。

At the beginning of establishing the forest farm, the working conditions and the living environment of Saihanba people was extremely bad. They ate black naked oats, drank ice and snow water, lived in shacks and slept on horse racks. With tenacious perseverance, they reclaimed wasteland and planted trees by braving the wind and snow, which make the green be in root and spread in the plateau desert.

2017年以来，塞罕坝机械林场向之前从未涉足的土壤贫瘠、岩石裸露的石质阳坡挺进，采取人抬马驮、挖石换土、保水覆膜等措施，实施攻坚造林。目前，10.2万亩石质山坡已全部实现绿化。

Since 2017, Saihanba Mechanical Forest Farm has advanced to the rocky sunny slope with barren soil and exposed rocks that has never been set foot before. It has implemented afforestation by carrying horses, digging stones for soil replacement, water conservation and plastic film mulching and so on. At present, 102,000 mu of rocky hillside has been afforested.

习近平总书记考察塞罕坝以来，林场全面开启二次创业。落实林长制改革，建立全覆盖的网格化管理体系和“天空地”一体化森林草原防火预警监测体系，成立“5G+智慧林草”联合实验室，加快塞罕坝生态文明示范区建设……二次创业不断取得新进展新成效。

Since General Secretary Xi Jinping visited Saihanba, the forest farm has started the second venture in an all-round way. They implemented the reform of the forest management system, established a full coverage grid management system and an early warning and monitoring system of the integration of "space, sky and land" for the forest and grassland fire prevention, set up a "5G+ intelligent forest and grass" joint laboratory, and accelerated the construction of a demonstration zone of Saihanba ecological civilization... The second venture has continuously made new progress and new achievements.

生态优先 保护第一

Ecological priority with protection first

塞罕坝机械林场牢固树立绿水青山就是金山银山理念，统筹推进国有林场改革，加快推进公益一类事业单位定性。积极发展林下经济，探索林下参种植，推广野生花卉培育驯化，引进并推广种植蓝靛果、小檗灌木。

Firmly maintaining the concept that green water and green mountains are golden hills and silver mountains, Saihanba Mechanical Forest Farm promoted the reform of state-owned forest farms as a whole, and accelerated the qualitative determination of public welfare first-class institutions. Actively developing the forest economy, they explored the forest ginseng planting, promoted wild flowers cultivation and domestication, while they also introduced and promoted planting Lonicera edulis, Berberis shrubs.

同时，林场着力推进林草生态价值转化，目前备案林业碳汇474.9万吨，推进开发30万亩次生林固碳产品。发挥生态文明建设示范区引领作用，依托百万亩森林资源，通过驻村帮扶、绿化苗木、技术支持，使4万余名百姓受益。

At the same time, the forest farm strived to promote the transformation of ecological value of forest and grass. Nowadays, 4.749 million tons of forest carbon sink has been recorded, with the development of 300,000 mu of secondary forest carbon fixation products being promoted. Giving full play to the leading role of ecological civilization construction demonstration zone, it relied on millions of mu of forest resources and benefited more than 40,000 people through village-based assistance, greening seedlings and technical support.

塞罕坝机械林场60年创业实践证明：只要坚持牢记使命，定能将生态系统修复；只要坚持艰苦创业，定能让祖国大地绿起来美起来；只要坚持绿色发展，定能把绿水青山转化为金山银山。

Saihanba mechanical forest farm 60 years of entrepreneurial practice has proved that, as long as we keep our mission in mind, we will be able to restore the ecosystem; as long as we persist in hard work, we will surely make the motherland green and beautiful; as long as we adhere to green development, we will be able to transform green water and green mountains into Jinshan Silver Mountain.
