On the morning of May 12, 2026, Peng Liyuan, wife of President Xi Jinping and UNESCO Special Envoy for the Advancement of Girls’ and Women’s Education, met with UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany in Beijing.
Peng Liyuan congratulated Khaled El-Enany on his election as UNESCO Director-General and commended UNESCO for its vital role in advancing girls’ and women’s education worldwide. She briefed him on China’s achievements in developing girls’ and women’s education, and stated her readiness to fully discharge her responsibilities as Special Envoy, deepen cooperation with UNESCO, and drive steady progress in global girls’ and women’s education.
