Zhenbao Island sits on the border between Raohe County and Hulin City, Heilongjiang Province, site of the well-known Zhenbao Island Self-Defense Counterattack. In August 1969, the Chinese People's Liberation Army built barracks on the island, where PLA troops upheld China’s national sovereignty. To this day, over 2,000 landmines remain buried in the island’s woods alongside scattered minefield markers, evoking memories of the deafening artillery battles of that year.
