On June 30th, the Department of Transportation of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region held a promotion activity of "Integration of Traffic and Travel and Optimization of Services", and announced at the meeting that six national and provincial trunk roads in Altay, Changji and Kashgar regions were officially opened to traffic, with a total mileage of 966 kilometers. Further building a "fast-forward and slow-travel" transportation network has released strong kinetic energy in promoting regional economic development and helping rural revitalization.
The highways opened to traffic include National Highway 681 Altay-Hemu Kanas Highway, National Highway 217 Altay-Burqin Highway, National Highway 216 Hongshanzui Port-Altay Highway, National Highway 331 Qinghe-Fuyun-Altay Highway, National Highway 219 Charek-Yecheng Highway and Provincial Highway 231 Changji-Wujiaqu Highway. These lines cross mountains and rivers, connect urban and rural areas, and reach ports, forming a criss-crossing high-grade highway network.
National Highway 681 Altay-Hemu-Kanas Highway has a total length of 218 kilometers. After it is opened to traffic, tourists can go directly to Hemu, the "fairyland on earth", along National Highway 681, and enjoy the magnificent scenery such as grasslands, forests and streams all the way. National Highway 217 Altay-Burqin Highway, with a total length of 105 kilometers, is an integral part of China's international land channel to Central Asia. Its opening to traffic has greatly improved regional transportation conditions. The total length of National Highway 216 from Hongshanzui Port to Altay Highway is 95 kilometers, which opens up the direct passage between China and Mongolia and effectively improves the traffic capacity of Hongshanzui Port. The total length of Qinghe-Fuyun-Altay Highway of National Highway 331 is 445 kilometers, which significantly improves the traffic conditions in border areas after its completion. National Highway 219 from Charek to Yecheng has a total length of 92 kilometers, and its opening to traffic provides an efficient connection channel for the industrial linkage of shache county, Zepu county and Yecheng county in Kashgar. 231 Provincial Highway Changji-Wujiaqu Highway has a total length of 11 kilometers, and the driving distance between the two places will be shortened by half after it is opened to traffic.
