The Airport Emergency Medical Center of the Second People’s Hospital of Guangdong Province opened an emergency green channel to assist a passenger suffering sudden discomfort.
Reported by Feng Zhijun from China Civil Aviation News and the Civil Aviation Network of China: In the early hours of a recent day, a 27-year-old male passenger named James (pseudonym), who was traveling from the Philippines to London and transiting at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, suddenly developed dizziness, headache, weakness in the right limbs and decreased vision. He was quickly transported to hospital by the Airport Emergency Medical Center of the Second People’s Hospital of Guangdong Province (hereinafter referred to as "the Second Provincial People’s Hospital").
After James was admitted to the Emergency Department, Dr. Le Haiyan from the Emergency Department of the Civil Aviation Campus of the Second People’s Hospital of Guangdong Province quickly took his medical history and conducted a physical examination. Nurse Xie Yuting simultaneously established an intravenous access, connected him to ECG monitoring and collected blood samples for testing. With medical staff accompanying him throughout the process, James soon underwent head and neck CTA and cerebral perfusion imaging scans. Imaging results indicated abnormal perfusion in the left occipital lobe and right cerebellar hemisphere, consistent with the typical manifestations of transient ischemic attack (TIA). Meanwhile, there were obstacles in verbal communication. Therefore, with the help of translation software, the medical staff patiently explained the condition to James and his accompanying companion. After timely symptomatic medication, James’ symptoms such as dizziness and limb weakness improved significantly.
Before leaving the hospital, he expressed his gratitude to the medical staff word by word via translation software and handwrote a thank-you letter. Though short, the letter carries profound affection. In this simplest way, the foreign passenger bore witness to the professionalism and kindness of Chinese medical workers.
During this rescue, the emergency team worked efficiently in close coordination. All links including condition assessment, emergency treatment and cross-language communication were closely connected, fully demonstrating the Second People’s Hospital of Guangdong Province’s professional capability in treating critical and severe illnesses as well as its humanistic care. The hospital will continue to optimize treatment procedures for cross-border passengers and special groups, safeguarding the life and health of every patient with professional expertise and thoughtful services.
