据介绍，作为一项世纪综合性工程，平陆运河项目全长约135公里，从南宁市横州市西津库区平塘江口始，经钦州市灵山县陆屋镇沿钦江进入北部湾，集航运、供水、灌溉、防洪、改善水生态环境等任务于一体，将缩短西江中上游地区入海航程560公里以上。

记者了解到，2021年6月，广西交通运输厅委托中交水运规划设计院、黄河勘测规划设计研究院等机构开展项目工程可行性研究报告编制及28项专题研究工作。2022年4月，还委托相关科研机构开展平陆运河工可研报告及各项专题研究第三方咨询评估工作，推动平陆运河高质量建设。

今年3月，经广西壮族自治区党委、政府同意，广西壮族自治区发展改革委批复了平陆运河项目建议书，项目正式立项。
